Gay Rights Supporter Hillary Clinton Makes History by Appointing Openly Gay Man as Campaign Manager

By Editor

As the world went into a swirl over Hillary Clinton’s announcement to bid for the office of the presidency of the United States of America, the LGBTI community all over the world joined in the jubilation as they welcomed this great news. Hillary Clinton has been one of the most vocal supporters of LGBTI rights and her election to the White House could potentially mean in the increased awareness on the advocacy of gay rights.

In what the community has also regarded as a sign of solidarity, Clinton also selected Maya Harris, a top Human Rights defender and Robby Mook onto the team responsible for her campaign strategy. Mook is the first openly gay man to head a presidential campaign in the history of the US.

Maya Harris

Maya L. Harris is an American administrator of non-profit organizations and a civil rights lawyer. She was appointed to be one of three senior policy advisers to lead the development of an agenda for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

She was formerly a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress from 2008 until she took her current position; she was Vice President for Democracy, Rights and Justice at the Ford Foundation.

It was under her leadership that the Foundation launched its first lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, or LGBT, rights initiative and supported emerging organizations in the Global South that are reshaping the global human rights agenda.

Robby Mook

Robby Mook is a political campaign strategist who has previously served as a volunteer for a teacher’s reelection campaign to the Vermont House of Representatives. He worked on state campaigns, leading up to Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential campaign and joined the Demoratic National Committee where he worked as State Director in the states for Hillary Clintons 2008 presidential campaign.

Mook also managed Jeanne Shaheen’s campaign as she ran for election to the US senate, he served as Executive Director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2012 and acted as campaign manager for Tett McAuliffe’s 2013 gubernatorial campaign.

In related news, Clinton featured a gay couple in her campaign video, as she depicted the lives of the everyday American.  The couple has now invited the presidential candidate to their wedding after being apparently surprised by their appearance in the video that has gone viral since Clinton made her presidential bid public.

Nathan Johnson and Jared Mildrad invited the Democratic candidate through Jared’s twitter account.
