African film project None On Record is this year joining the IDAHOT celebrations by collecting video messages from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) persons and allies across the African continent as well as those in Diaspora. They have now sent out a worldwide invitation for people to send 45 second video message clips of support to LGBTIQ youth in Africa. The final product is to be released online on May 17th 2015.

The project aims to spread the stories of Queer Africans and to document the hopes, challenges and joy of being an LGBTI African.   Most recently, None On Record was involved in the ‘We are Queer’ campaign, an initiative put together to offer support for LGBTI youth as well as wage a war against homophobia.

In related news, Q-Initiative Eldoret, an LGB Youth group will lead Kenya’s commemoration of IDAHOT with an online campaign aimed at LGBTI youth. The week-long programme will include anti-bullying messages and global news linked to IDAHOT shared with the intention of raising awareness and changing perceptions.

Besides the online campaign, the group will also produce t-shirts, brochures and leaflets to be distributed among LGBTI youth and their families to spread their message against homophobia and bigotry.  Also planned is a public discussion where the Kenyan public is invited to engage with the group on the topic of ‘Homophobia and The Youth’.
