Rainbow Health Foundation Mbarara in Fundraising Drive to Equip Resource Center

RHFMRainbow Health Foundation is one of the very few rural based LGBTI organizations in Uganda. It has spearheaded many campaigns for the rural dwelling community and is now in the process of organizing an Easter show that will be staged in both Mbarara and Kampala.

The drama show, organized and staged by RHFM mentored group Ekitoone, is intended to create HIV awareness, promote human rights as well as act as a fundraising drive through the sale of crafts and other usable household items. The five year old organization is also trying to raise funds to help them purchase computers for their resource centre. These will enable LGBTI persons in Western Uganda  access easy learning especially, those that have been thrown out of schools and lost school tuition privileges due to the either their sexual orientation or gender identity.

“This year our goal is to raise USD 3,856 towards the purchase of desktop computers for our  resource centre to enable learning for the LGBTI in the rural areas who have been denied this opportunity due to expulsion from school or lack of school fees. This will be done through donations,  hiring services from  our members , selling artistic  rainbow pieces and crafts  made by RHFM members,  and music and drama  concerts by RHFM dance group( EKITOONE) coming to your home town soon,” a board member of RHFM says of the ongoing fundraising.

RHFM’s main mission is to support and empower the LGBTI community in the western part of Uganda as well as jointly work for realization of rights for all. “In order to meet our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support.  Without the assistance of community minded individuals just like you, we wouldn’t be able serve those in our community each year,” the board member further explained.

Previously, RHFM has been able to train its members in financial literacy, resource mobilization and vocational skills support from UHAI EASHRI and AJWS. They hope to have bettered all LGBTI livelihoods  by 2017 as per the organization’s strategic plan 2012-2017.
