GCWR Marks #IWD2019 WITH #KickForEquality Tournament

UNESO IWD FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

To commemmorate #IWD2019, Golden Centre for Women’s Rights (GCWR) together with other sex worker and LGBTQ organisations held an inter organization soccer tournament at Mulago Play Ground dubbed #KickforEquality.

Other organisations that partook in the tournament included Visual Echoes for Human Rights, Freedom and Roam Uganda, Tranz Equality Uganda, Access for All South Sudan and Alliance of Women Advocating for Change among others. They had a total of six teams- Purity, Hope, Dignity, Power, Solidarity and Femininity with Purity emerging the overall winner.

The tournament was an inclusive activity for all women regardless of gender, nationality, gender identity or sexual orientation. The Guest of Honor, Flavia Kyomukama in her speech said, "I was once hated for hosting transgender women in my office but I accepted them because we are all human beings." Kyomukama was speaking to the need to be more inclusive of gender and sexual minorities as well as sex workers.

The #KickforEquality 2019 Campaign was intended to use sports as a tool for social change and to educate the community about gender based violence.

3: Access for All- LGBTI refugees from southern Sudan. -Team Power (Red)

4: Golden Centre for Women's Rights and HRAPF- Team Purity(White) - Winners of the tournament

5: Serving Lives Under Marginalization(SLUM), Women Posiive Empowerment Initiative (WOPEIN) and Empowered at Dusk -Team Hope (Green) women sex work led groups.

6: Visual Echoes for Human Rights Advocacy (VEHRA)- LGBTI sports Adocates-Team Dignity(Purple)
