Court In Uganda Arraigns Man Suspected of Killing Community Paralegal.

Human Rights Awareness and Promotion Forum (HRAPF) lawyers Dr. Adrian Jjuuko and Arajab Kamya were on watching brief at Lira Chief Magistrates’ Court as the suspect in the murder of Licinia Akirapa, a fallen community paralegal for the Northern region Legal Aid Center at Health and Rights Initiative was arraigned. They were joined by the deceased’s mother and the Executive Director Health and Rights Initiative (HRI) Jay Abang who worked closely with the deceased.

While speaking to the deceased’s mother, Dr Adrian Juuko promised to ensure that justice is served. The suspect was remanded to prison until 15th July 2021 when the case will come up in court for mention.

Last week Licinia Akirapa was found hanging on a mango tree in what looked like suicide. At that time, the suspect was held under police custody for fear he would harm himself after the community thought it was suicide. When the charges turned to a murder upon investigation, he was moved to another police station.

Various CSOs lead by HRAPF gathered last week for an online memorial where the late was described as a jolly, hard working person.
