MTV and All Out announce winners of international LGBTQ+ photography competition.

MTV and All Out, a global movement for love and equality, have announced the winners of the organization’s first-ever international LGBT+ photography competition that sought submissions in three categories that tracked the lives and experiences of LGBT+ people through the pandemic. The three included Resisting, Supporting and Healing. The competition that was launched on May 17 2021 received over 1,800 photographs from 387 photographers from all over the world.

The winning photos are currently being featured on MTV’s billboard at 1515 Broadway in Times Square to celebrate Pride and to commemorate the Stonewall riots of June 28, 1969. They will also be featured in an outdoor exhibition at World Pride Copenhagen in a main square of the Danish capital and at exhibition spaces across the world.

“LGBT+ communities around the world are facing a disproportionate negative impact from the global pandemic. The incredible photographic talent that this competition has attracted documents this journey of pain, brutality, hope and solidarity with eloquence and beauty. The photographs are an inspiration in the fight for global equality for all LGBT+ people.” Said Matt Beard, Executive Director at All Out.

Chris McCarthy, President, MTV Entertainment Group said, “Not since the AIDS pandemic has the LGBT+ community been attacked and scapegoated at such record levels as we are seeing during COVID-19, we at MTV Entertainment stand against all forms of hate and are proud to partner with All Out to highlight the queer voices of resistance, solidarity and hope.”

The All Out Photo Award was launched on May 17 to capture how LGBT+ people and their communities and allies around the world resist attacks and discrimination, support each other in these difficult times, and heal together.
