Training Opportunity For Journalists!

Taboom Media, a global media development and monitoring group, invites applications for its week-long Media Advocacy for LGBTQI+ Equality workshop in February 2022. This free and interactive course aims to help civil society organisations from across Africa create and deliver media advocacy strategies, campaigns, and stories that advance LGBTQI+ equality.

The online course will take place Monday – Friday, 13:00 -17:00 SAST on 7 – 11 February 2022. Eligible participants must live in Africa, be affiliated with a civil society organisation that serves sexual/gender minorities, and have working proficiency in English.

Regional expert trainers and guest speakers will lead daily Zoom sessions about media advocacy and campaign design, audience identification, messaging and framing, media safety, storytelling, social media, traditional news media, press interviews, press releases and op-eds, community outreach and events, crisis communications, communicating with faith groups, media monitoring, and testing and evaluating campaigns. Participants will deliver stories, pitch media campaigns, and provide group feedback during the week via Zoom and other channels.

During and after the workshop, participants will produce one written advocacy story that will be included in our Hopes and Dreams anthology series and deliver one media campaign. Financial stipends will be provided for successfully completed project components.
