PRESS STATEMENT COMMEMORATING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, BIPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA (IDAHOBIT)/

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kuchu Times Media Group proudly stands in support of the commemoration of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) especially during this period where the legislative arm of the government of Uganda attempts to legalize the above. This important day serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or any other gender and sexual minority within the Ugandan society.

In Uganda, the fight against discrimination, prejudice, and violence targeting the LGBT+ community is an urgent and crucial one. We firmly believe in fostering a society that celebrates diversity, champions equality, and upholds the fundamental human rights of every individual, irrespective of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

As a media house, we are committed to providing inclusive and accurate coverage that challenges harmful stereotypes and misconceptions about the LGBT+ community. We strive to amplify the voices and stories of LGBT individuals, shedding light on their triumphs, challenges, and contributions to the country. Our aim is to foster understanding, empathy, and acceptance while actively working to dismantle the deeply ingrained prejudice that exists.

We understand the risks and dangers that LGBT+ individuals face in Uganda due to discriminatory laws and social attitudes. Even as we continue to do our work, we are aware that we are directly affected by this bill as any efforts to share the realities of our community are seen as promotion of homosexuality. In fact, the passed bill by the parliament of Uganda under promotion considers any person normalizing the existence of LGBT+ persons and the punishment is not exceeding 20 years imprisonment with no option of paying a fine.

Despite these challenges, we remain resolute in our commitment to creating a safe space for their stories and experiences. We stand against any form of violence, persecution, or marginalization faced by the LGBT community in Uganda.

On this International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, we call upon individuals, communities, and the government of Uganda to join us in actively combating discrimination and prejudice. We urge the rejection of discriminatory laws, the protection of LGBT+ rights, and the creation of an inclusive society where diversity is celebrated and everyone can live their lives authentically, free from fear and oppression.

Together, let us work towards a future in Uganda where the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, are respected and upheld, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable society for everyone.
