Women’s Day Message From Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera

As we celebrate InternationaI Women’s day, I dedicate this year to Akina Mama WA Afrika ( AmWa). In the spirit of embracing equity, AmWa generously opened her doors to me, FARUG and the entire LGBT+ Community. FARUG is the AmWa of queer feminist women in Uganda. We shall overcome!

I would also love to share a light warning to my fellow country men and women; people getting married doesn’t mean they are happy. Many are getting married because that’s what society expects them to do. Many of those belong to my community. Having sex with opposite sex doesn’t make you heterosexual , the reverse is true, sex workers can also attest to this, economic situation are the main evidence, adventure, etc. There are clusters of people called men who have sex with men (MSM) and women who have sex with women (WSW) for all the reasons I have listed above.

We should all be advocating for self awareness to save the lives of our family and friends that might be driven to drastic measures like suicide because of our words, prejudice, peer pressure and imported religion.

I am heartbroken that we still have politicians who think that in 2023 they can still play the gay card. You are very naive. I would expect people like you to be more conscious than your predecessors but you are remaking all their mistakes.
