A Year of Remembrance
Today marks one year since we lost John Chris Bwette, our beloved Administrative Director and an irreplaceable member of the KuchuTimes Media Group family. As we pause to honor his memory, our hearts remain heavy with grief, yet filled with gratitude for the time we shared with this extraordinary man.
John was the quiet strength that held so much together behind the scenes. His diligence was legendary among us—arriving early, staying late, and approaching every task, no matter how small, with meticulous care and unwavering dedication. He understood that in media work, the details matter, and he made sure nothing fell through the cracks. From managing schedules that seemed impossible to coordinate, to ensuring our equipment was always ready for the next story, to maintaining the systems that kept our newsroom running smoothly, John was our anchor.
But beyond his professional excellence was something even more precious : his big heart. John had an extraordinary ability to see people, truly see them, and offer exactly what they needed. Whether it was a colleague struggling with a deadline, or a community member seeking our help to tell their story, John approached everyone with genuine warmth and compassion.
In our work documenting and amplifying the voices of Uganda’s LGBTI+ community, John understood the weight of what we do. He knew that behind every story was a real person deserving of dignity and respect. His gentle spirit and respectful approach made sources feel safe and valued. He was often the first person people met when they came to our office, and his welcoming presence set the tone for everything that followed.
The void he left cannot be filled. His empty desk reminds us daily of his absence, but it also serves as a testament to his presence in our lives. We carry forward his example of quiet excellence, his reminder that every person matters, and his demonstration that the most profound impact often comes not from grand gestures, but from consistent kindness and unwavering reliability.
To John’s family and loved ones, we want you to know that his influence extends far beyond what you might imagine. Every story we tell, every voice we amplify, every moment of compassion we show carries a piece of his spirit. He helped create something lasting and meaningful, and his legacy lives on in every person whose story found its way to the world through KuchuTimes.
Today, we remember not just what we’ve lost, but what we were blessed to experience. John Chris Bwette was a gift to us all, a reminder that true strength is often quiet, that real leadership sometimes looks like service, and that the biggest hearts often beat in the most humble chests.
Rest in peace, dear friend. Your work continues through us, your kindness echoes in our actions, and your memory remains a source of inspiration and love.
