KASI 2 KASI QUEER FILM FESTIVAL GOES DIGITAL

South Africa’s Kasi 2 Kasi Queer Cinema is doing its part in flattening the Covid-19 curve by going entirely digital for their annual film festival. The 2020 festival which started on 31st July will run until 17th August.

The cinema project will be screening various local and international LGBTIQ themed movies on their website throughout this period.

According to their official website, http://www.k2kqc.co.za , the festival ‘s main purpose is to truly embody the idea of inclusiveness by stimulating conversation and information sharing. Film in general is a powerful impact medium, because it breeds empathy, because culture change leads other change and film can bring new energy to an issue.

Below are some of the films gracing the festival’s line up.

LOW: Set in the city of Tshwane, LOW is a short drama film which tells the story of undercover love disguised by the rejection of self-acceptance. The story follows Michael Khoza and Lebogang Mogale whose relationship is of a friendly nature.
This is until Michael makes moves on Lebogang where we realise that this is has been Lebogang’s desire for the longest of time and when Michael meets his needs halfway, the two share an intimate moment unlike anything they have experienced before. Albeit short, this story promises moments of fun mixed with elements of desire and a love that is never seen on screen.

Beautiful contradictions: Smooth, successful, and yet so conflicted, Tony Nkosi is trying to work through his inner turmoil where cultural and familial expectations conflict with emotional and physical needs. He tells his shrink, Dr Stacey, that he doesn't date men, and yet he can neither let his shag-buddy Thabo go nor give him the emotional commitment he needs.

Rift : Nkuli is coming to terms with a break up. Today is the day his ex is coming to collect their belongings. Will he be able to hold it together?

Also showing are Black Beauhs, Faces and Lit.

If you are in need of some queer movies to get you through this rather dull COVID-19 season, Kasi 2 Kasi Queer cinema is providing the perfect entertainment for you.
