OPEN SOCIETY FOUNDATION: Job Opening for a Program Administrative Specialist

The Finance and Operations Department of the Program on Independent Journalism is at the heart of program’s grant making operations and plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the program. The Program Administrative Specialist will work under direct supervision of the manager of the Finance and Operations unit of the Program on Independent Journalism and will provide general administrative support to the whole program. This is a fixed term maternity cover position.

Kim Mukisa Shares his Experience in Prison where he was Remanded on Charges of Homosexuality

Finally after staying close to five months in Luzira prison, Kim and Rihanna were released marking the beginning of their turbulent lives outside of the prison walls. Kim came back to begin life all over again, he had no home, business or even friends. Kim says that he once slept in old wrecked vehicles in parking yards since he had nowhere to go.

Determined to Beat the Odds: Rainbow Mirrors Ventures into Agriculture

Jamal was apportioned a huge piece of land by his parents and decided to use it to the benefit of her fellow transgender women. Through mobilization, she was able to coordinate other Ugandan transgender women to till the land. On the farm, they planted groundnuts that they are currently harvesting; they planted beans which are also ready for harvest, scattered matooke stems and piggery. They also plan to start planting grapes on the farm to cut down the costs of raw materials used in their wine making business.

#UgandaIsOrlando: Uganda’s LGBTI Community Holds Vigil to Mourn the Victims of the Orlando Shooting

To show their love and support during this hard time, the Ugandan LGBTI community held a vigil on 18/6/2016 at the Chapter Four office premises. Despite the heavy down pour, the event organized by Kuchu Times Media Group, saw a number of LGBTI identifying persons and allies of the community come together to pay their respects to the innocent souls that were lost in the tragic shooting.

An Open Letter of Support to the Orlando Shooting Victims

I genuinely do not understand how one person can look at another person and not see all of that. How can they look at someone and not imagine the lives they would have touched or changed just by simply existing? How they can look at another person and decide they are wrong for loving someone? Anyone who’s ever experienced any kind of love knows how wonderfully indescribably that feeling can be. I can’t fathom wanting to take that away from anyone.
